Lazy Bee 40"

Hi Guys:

One of my projects, a Lazy Bee 40" 1/2-A.

Has anyone built and/or flown any of the Bee's ? They look like so much fun in the 40" version, I had to downloaded the prints.

I will use a TT .07 1/2-A engine. The total weight thus far is about 11-ounces. Expect AUW to be about 25-ounces. If the .07 is not quite enough I will use either a TT-.10 or a Norvel .074.
The Norvel's produce a lot of power. They all have excellent idle characteristics. The little 1/2-A's are a lot of fun. My mini-bipe went very well at 26-ounces with the TT .07.

Anyway just curious.

I had the Cox foam version. I had to put a Norvel engine in it to get it over 10 feet above ground. I still have it.

Well things have been pretty quite but for Rogers Yuk-Up so thought I would put up some pics of my Lazy Bee. I downloaded plans and built pretty much as Clancy designed it.

I was originally going to use my ThunderTiger .070 but since my AUW went past 25-oz I decided to use my Norvel .074. The little TT can turn a 6 X 3/16100-RPM on 20% but past 25-oz it really is not enough. The Norvel will turn a 7 X 3/16300- on 20% and really throttles nice.

Anyway thought you might get a kick out of her.

CG set but I had to use 1.5oz lead- could have used a larger NiCd for weight but space was tight.


AUW came in at 29.25-oz so I went with my Norvel .074, turns the 7 X 3 at 16300-RPM.


Radio for scale, W/S 40.0". 450-sq/in = 9.36-oz sq/ft


Behind the wheel you can see the slot in the fuselage for axle travel.


Nice plain scheme.


I added ailerons, never did like three channel, too many death spins.

Hi Guys, thanks for the comments.

I saw one on YouTube of a guy in China (I think) and he built this version but used the 48" wing. He powered it with a OS 52 4-stroke and it was wild. I am not that adventuresome anymore so I built mine to be the "old typical Tom" aircraft. I have always loved "low and slow" even when I was flying full scale.
